Using the Antenna Pattern Generator
What this tool does
The generator creates a synthesized pattern set from entered antenna specifications. The same model supplies the 3D view and 2D plots.
Before you start
Have the manufacturer’s datasheet available. Confirm the model or part number, description, antenna type, frequency range, center frequency, peak gain and vertical beamwidth. Gain in dBd and power rating are optional when known.
Steps
- Enter the model or part number and a concise description.
- Choose the antenna type that best matches the datasheet: omnidirectional (collinear) or directional (Yagi).
- Enter the published frequency range and a representative center frequency in MHz.
- Enter peak gain in dBi and vertical half-power beamwidth in degrees. Add dBd gain or power rating only when the source provides them.
- Select Build Pattern and inspect the 3D result and both 2D plots.
- If the published vertical pattern differs, adjust the vertical curve using the editor and compare again with the source diagram.
Interpreting the plots
The plots are synthesized from the values and model assumptions. Keep the units and source values with the result so another engineer can reproduce the setup.
Important limits
Generated patterns are not measured results and must not be represented as measured or validated. Do not use them for coverage prediction or system design. Do not describe a pattern as approved unless the product workflow visibly records an authorized engineer’s approval; this guide does not establish that approval workflow.
Next steps
Compare inputs with the datasheet. If the result is intended for an engineering decision, ask Telewave Engineering to review it.
