Viewing Antenna Patterns in 3D
The 3D Pattern Viewer displays antenna radiation-pattern data as an interactive model. It can help you inspect pattern shape and compare files visually; the display is not itself a measurement or engineering approval.
Load a pattern
Choose Load JSON or MSI, or use Load Sample to explore the viewer. Supported inputs include BASTA 3DRP JSON, WiFi planner JSON (Ekahau / iBwave), and MSI (Planet) text. For BASTA data, the viewer reads the azimuth/elevation samples and gains from the file. Check that the file belongs to the intended antenna and that its units and metadata are correct.
Navigate and choose a display
Use the viewer controls to fit the model, zoom, or expand the view. Choose a display mode: normalized visual, normalized dB, field amplitude, or power gain. Adjust the display floor and fixed color scale when comparing patterns, and use the legend to understand the mapped range.
The display modes change how values are mapped to mesh radius and color; they do not alter the source gain data. WiFi and MSI imports reconstruct a 3D shape from horizontal and vertical planes using a separable-product approximation. That reconstructed shape is not a measured 3D pattern.
Limits: File formats may render imperfectly, and a visual model should not be treated as a certified gain plot or coverage prediction. Preserve the source file and metadata, and ask engineering to validate any pattern used for a design decision.
