Creating a 2D/3D Antenna Pattern

The 2D/3D Antenna Pattern Generator builds a synthesized pattern from antenna specifications entered from a datasheet. One model supplies the 3D view and both 2D plots so the product page and datasheet can use consistent generated data.

Enter the source specifications

Enter the model or part number and description, choose omnidirectional (collinear) or directional (Yagi), then provide the frequency range and center frequency. Peak gain in dBi and vertical beamwidth are required. Gain in dBd and power rating are optional where available. Use the antenna’s published specifications and keep the source document with the work.

Build and refine the pattern

Select Build Pattern to create the initial 3D pattern and 2D plots. Compare the generated vertical curve with the published diagram. Where the editor permits, adjust the vertical curve so it follows the source data and review the updated plots and 3D result together. Confirm the frequency, gain, beamwidth, polarization, and antenna model before saving or associating the pattern with a product.

Pattern status: A generated pattern is synthesized. It is a model based on entered specifications, not a measured pattern. Keep that label until an engineer has reviewed the source data, corrected the pattern as needed in the editor, and explicitly approved it under Telewave’s engineering process. Do not describe a synthesized pattern as measured or approved.

Limits: The generator cannot infer missing measured data or certify a product’s radiation characteristics. Preserve the datasheet source and review history with the pattern. If a measured file exists, use the measured source according to the product’s pattern setting.
